Temperatures could drop to -20 degrees Celsius on Tuesday morning in Montreal for the first time this season, while the sun will also shine. A few flakes towards the end of the week will add a little touch of white.

The week will be divided into two parts depending on the weather, explains Félix Biron, meteorologist for Environment Canada.
After a windy and snowy Sunday, the sun will shine in much of the south and west of the province for the first part of the week. At the same time, winter temperatures will persist.
In Montreal, the temperature could drop to -20 degrees Celsius early Tuesday morning. A first this season, as the coldest temperature recorded in the metropolis this year was -17 degrees Celsius, emphasizes the meteorologist.
From Wednesday, a low pressure area coming from the west is expected to bring up to ten centimeters of snow. However, it is not yet certain that the metropolis will be affected by this small broadside. Simultaneously with the appearance of clouds, temperatures will rise above seasonal norms.
A snowy and windy Sunday
Part of the Outaouais and Laurentians were under watch for snow squalls and rainfall on Sunday. By the end of the day, Gatineau had accumulated 13 centimeters of snow and Mont-Tremblant had accumulated 8 centimeters. To the east, Trois-Rivières received 9 centimeters. According to Mr. Biron, 6 centimeters of snow was recorded at the airport in Montreal. Gusts of up to 60 kilometers per hour were also observed.
These wintry conditions reduced visibility on certain roads in the province on Sunday, according to the Department of Transportation's interactive map. At the end of the day, the Sûreté du Québec reported no major accidents on the roads, despite more difficult winter conditions for drivers.
Ice rink on the Rideau Canal reopens
In Ottawa, closer-to-normal temperatures also allowed part of the iconic Rideau Canal ice rink to reopen for the second time this winter. Skaters and walkers were able to enjoy the ice for part of the day before it closed again for maintenance at 6 p.m.
The Rideau Canal rink was closed just four days after it opened on Jan. 24 due to high temperatures.
For the first time in its history, the rink remained closed throughout the winter last winter.
