NHL: a victory that is good for the Avalanche

Far from having played a perfect game, the Colorado Avalanche still found a way to get a much-needed win by defeating the Arizona Coyotes 4-3 at Ball Arena on Sunday.

Before this victory, Jared Bednar's men had lost five of their last seven meetings, most notably against the New York Rangers, New Jersey Devils and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Things got off to a bad start on Sunday, with the Colorado team trailing 3-2 after junior Logan Cooley's eighth goal of the season midway through the second period.

But later the club's big guns woke up.

Nathan MacKinnon scored the first equalizer 21 seconds after Cooley's success. Defenseman Devon Toews gave his team the win thanks to a wrist shot in the third period. During the sequence, Jonathan Drouin collected an assist.

Jack Johnson and Ross Colton were the Avalanche's other scorers. In addition to Cooley, Matt Dumba and Lawson Crouse provided the Coyotes.

The Avalanche host the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday. André Tourigny's players will try to make up for that on Monday against the Edmonton Oilers.
