Describing how she came to write her 2020 Grammy-winning album Folklore, the 34-year-old star admitted she drank a lot during lockdown.
“I imagined that I wasn't a lonely millennial covered in cat hair and drinking my weight in white wine, but a ghostly Victorian lady wandering through the forest in her … 'light on the chandelier,'” Taylor said Swift addressed the 96,000 people at the Melbourne Cricket Ground while playing her acoustic guitar. “And I just wrote on parchment with a quill pen. That’s what I was thinking about when I wrote Folklore.”
Before launching into an interpretation of Betty, she concluded: “That's not what I sounded like when I wrote Folklore, but that's what I thought it would sound like!” That's all that matters: it's the illusion .”
Taylor Swift's next album, The Tortured Poets Department, is scheduled for release on April 19th.
