Sanchez remains on course after the Galicians and is pushing

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, blames the Galician coup and has informed his people that he is aware that they have a problem in this and other territories, where they need to consolidate several recent leadership changes. or are in the process of doing so. But the dismal outcome in this community will not prompt the president to change the course of national policy. The 50,000 votes that the PSOE lost in Galicia and that were analyzed in La Moncloa did not fall because of the amnesty, but because they went en masse to the BNG, which is even more enthusiastic about pardoning the process, but because the PSOE … That’s what happened to him in Madrid – he wasn’t seen as an opposition leader by the left.

Sánchez has therefore decided to maintain the line established in the agreement with the Independents and, in particular, the idea of implementing the amnesty law as quickly as possible. There is no turning back, nor is the position being hardened. The idea is to continue negotiations – this weekend, according to negotiating sources, there were contacts and an exchange of papers with proposals and counter-proposals, although the positions have remained essentially unchanged – albeit with a very limited limit. Of course, the Socialists insist that they will not overcome: they will not change the law to include all types of terrorism in the amnesty, as Junts demands.

In principle, the PSOE wanted to push last week – that's why there was a meeting on Thursday in Barcelona, in the middle of the Galician election campaign – to have the agreement ready this week and to approve it without having to use the extension at 15 Days that were requested just in case the deadline for this was expiring. However, negotiating sources point out that as things stand, it appears very difficult to reach an agreement this week, which would result in the next week or the week after, which would shorten the deadlines.

The possibility of a fiasco, that is, of not passing the law, is still on the table, because the PSOE has a clear red line and Junts insists on demanding that all types of terrorism be included to prevent the judges from doing so try Carles Puigdemont and others remain excluded from the amnesty. But both the Socialists and the Junts say there is a will to reach agreement and believe a breakup is unlikely because a pact is favorable to both.

Sánchez has therefore decided to apply pressure, but not so that the amnesty falls, but on the contrary, so that it comes into force as quickly as possible and so we can start working in earnest on the budgets, the next milestone in the consolidation of the legislature. . The negotiations are complex since the PSOE offers to shorten the deadlines of the directive through a reform of the criminal procedure law (Lecrim), without, however, affecting the amnesty law, which the Socialists, like the other allies, consider to be good. Junts, on the other hand, does not reject the amendment to the Lecrim, but considers it to be insufficient and calls for substantial changes to the law. The Socialists do not rule out changes as long as they do not jeopardize the constitutionality of the law and flatly reject the introduction of any form of terrorism. Various sources admit that there may be a “creative solution” in the end, but so far it has not been found.

It is quite clear that the various majority groups do not believe that the outcome of the Galician elections will change anything significant in national politics. In fact, in the PSOE, despite the hard blow, they believe that the PP, now euphoric, is wrong to forget that the turnaround that Alberto Núñez Feijoo made in the middle of the election campaign against Catalonia – He spoke of “reconciliation”. “He admitted that he had studied the amnesty for 24 hours after the PP was open to pardoning Puigdemont as long as he showed remorse – that doesn't go away because of his victory. The same Wednesday, Sánchez will remind him of this in the control meeting and he will use it as much as possible to try to mitigate the effects of the hard line against the amnesty that the PP has chosen.

Junts, who is in constant contact with the PSOE, also made it clear this Monday that he does not fear that the poor result of the PSOE in Galicia could complicate and affect the amnesty negotiations. Josep Rius, spokesman for the Junts, indicated that they would continue as before: “We will continue negotiations as always.” We have signed an investiture pact with the Socialists and will continue as soon as this is fulfilled. The elections do not change the situation at all.”

After the Junts board celebrated highlighting the BNG's “big step” as an alternative, Rius questioned whether the amnesty might have taken a toll on the Galician socialists. “Making extrapolations is tricky. In any case, the socialists have lost votes in favor of a sovereigntist party that is in favor of amnesty,” he explained. The PSOE, meanwhile, asked Congress this Saturday for a two-week extension to reach an agreement on the articles of the law, after failing in the first vote three weeks ago. “We want to save time to get a good text,” Rius said. “There is no need to hurry but to enact a good law,” he concluded.

Annoyed by the slowness of negotiations

Esquerra, in turn, is annoyed by the slowness of the negotiations and calls for the responsibility of Junts and the PSOE to reach an agreement now. Raquel Sans, spokesperson for the ERC, called for the rule to be approved as soon as possible, claiming that hundreds of people are charged with their lives because of cases 9-N and 1-O and because of the post-conviction protests – ” “upside down” waiting for the law. “There are no rabbits in the hat. “What could have been approved today could have been approved three weeks ago,” explained the parliamentarian, who emphasized taking sufficient precautions and not resorting to “inventions” that would make the law inapplicable.

The reality is that three senior ERC officials will be charged before the Supreme Court of Catalonia (TSJC) from April 10th for their involvement in the 1-O referendum – the prosecution is demanding prison for them – and everything indicates that the The hearing will take place because the deadlines for passing the law exceed this schedule from the start. But it's not just the ERC asking Junts to speed up the negotiations. Salvador Illa, first secretary of the PSC, claimed the same and called on Puigdemont's party to be “up to the task.” The opposition leader also emphasized that the law requires two conditions: a majority in Congress and legal solvency. “And it is relevant because it has to pass the filters of the Constitutional Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union,” he noted.

Illa warned that those who do not know how to interpret the “pervasive, comprehensive and explicit demand” in Catalonia in favor of the law and the turning of the page after 10 years of the process will be very wrong. “I want everyone to be on the same level. If not, Catalonia will fail,” he explained. The analysis is similar to that of En Comú. “If it is not approved, 80% of Catalans will not understand it.” It is common sense to approve it. “He comes to resolve a conflict that has been stuck for a long time,” said Joan Mena, a spokeswoman for the party.
