In Saint-Malachie, a man died for “criminal reasons,” the SQ is investigating

The Séreté du Québec confirms the death of a man in Saint-Malachie, in Chaudière-Appalaches, under unclear circumstances. Three other men were injured.

The Tactical Intervention Group (GTI) of the Sèreté du Québec (SQ) intervened early Monday morning on Saint-Damien Street in Saint-Malachie.

The police provide very little information about the operation, but confirm that a man died for criminal reasons. The three injured men were taken to hospital but there is no fear for their lives, the SQ said.

Persons known to the police are received by investigators of crimes against the person, accompanied by other units of the Séreté du Québec. According to our information, the event is related to the world of narcotics.

On site, SQ spokeswoman Hélène Saint-Pierre stated that the people are currently being received by investigators, but there is no talk of an arrest.

Many agents were deployed and a security perimeter was set up.

Residents had previously been evacuated for safety reasons.
