Pilots run out of track: chilling Embraer accident in Belgrade

The crew of the Embraer 195, operated by Marathon Airlines for Air Serbia, chose Taxiway D5 as the taxiway for takeoff from Runway 30L. This left the regional jet with just a takeoff distance of 1,273 meters. Local air traffic control apparently warned pilots about this fact twice. Even so, the crew gave full thrust at 5:38 p.m. But the distance was not enough and the plane passed the end of the runway. The jet likely collided with an ILS antenna. It wasn't until about 1,100 meters after the end of the runway that he was fully airborne.

Emergency landing in Belgrade

The collision caused severe damage to the left wing root. The left horizontal stabilizer also suffered some damage. The aircraft with registration OY-GDC then flew loops to dump fuel. After about 55 minutes, she landed safely in Belgrade. Passengers were apparently informed that it was a minor incident and that they had to return to the airport for technical reasons. Wet leasing for Air Serbia

The Greece-based company specializes in charter and wet leasing operations. Marathon also operates a pure Embraer fleet. The E195, which was involved in an accident, joined the fleet last fall. It has construction number 204 and was initially sold to Flybe in 2008.
