PL boss speaks out against Lula's impeachment

Unlike the PL deputies, the coordinator of the Sao Paulo bank in the chamber, Antônio Carlos Rodrigues, recently expressed his opposition to President Lula's impeachment motion.

As we have shown previously, about 115 deputies from the center and the opposition signed a motion to remove the President of the Republic after he linked Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip to the Holocaust.

For Rodrigues, who belongs to the PL of Valdemar Costa Neto and Jair Bolsonaro, it is necessary to “respect the will of the polls”.

“It is with deep dismay that I note the request for a vote on the impeachment of President Lula due to his insensitive statements about the Holocaust, which were truly deplorable. I am aware of the seriousness of this matter and express my solidarity with the Jewish people,” Rodrigues said.

“However, I remain convinced that democracy must be preserved. “During all my mandates, I have never voted for any obstruction of a democratically elected citizen,” the parliamentarian concluded.

“I reiterate my unwavering belief in the sovereignty of the popular vote. “Whoever the people elected, it is not Parliament’s responsibility to dismiss them.”

In the impeachment motion filed by Carla Zambelli (PLSP), parliamentarians claim that the president's statements constituted a crime of responsibility within the meaning of Article 5 of the Federal Constitution.

They quote: “The following crimes against the political existence of the Union are: 3. the commission of a hostile act against a foreign nation, the endangerment of the Republic by war or the endangerment of its neutrality.”

Earlier this week, on the agenda in Ethiopia, President Lula classified Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip as genocidal compared the episode to the Jewish Holocaust during World War II.]

The Novo party announced this Tuesday morning (20) that it supports the impeachment proceedings against President Lula. The acronym states that a President of the Republic should not support terrorism or be hostile to nations that have close diplomatic relations with Brazil.
