Directed by Justine Triet, this drama is about a family whose life is turned upside down when the father dies after a fall. At the end of the 49th ceremony, the Académie des César decided to award the Best Film Award to “Anatomy of a Fall”. 02/23/24 – 11:47 p.m. – Arieh Worthalter wins the César for best actor

The Césars awarded the best actor statuette to Arieh Worthalter. As a reminder, in the Goldman trial he plays Pierre Goldman, a far-left activist convicted of robberies and murder. In this category he met Romain Duris, Benjamin Lavernhe, Melvil Poupaud and Raphaël Quenard. It was the first time in his career that he was nominated for a César. This is the fourth Caesar for Anatomy of a Fall. 02/23/24 – 11:20 p.m. – Agnès Jaoui pays tribute to Jean-Pierre Bacri

After a funny and touching introduction by Jamel Debbouze, Agnès Jaoui took the stage at the Olympia to receive the honorary César, which rewards her entire career. “I know that by awarding this prize you are obviously and fundamentally appreciating the work I have done with Jean-Pierre and I am touched by your gesture. This year the Césars honor two figures of the seventh art, including a Frenchman. The actress, screenwriter and director Agnès Jaoui will receive an honorary César in 2024. She was previously awarded a César for Best Supporting Actress by the Academy in 1998 for “We Know the Song” and a César du Best Film in 2001 for “The Taste of Others.” She also won four Césars for best screenplay, which she shared with her partner Jean-Pierre Bacri. With this new award, Agnès Jaoui becomes the woman with the most awards in the history of the Césars, with no less than seven statuettes in different categories.

Among the documentaries, the Academy members honored Olfa's Daughters by Kaouther Ben Hania, which won the César for best documentary. This documentary tells the story of a Tunisian mother of four daughters and a sisterhood that questions our societies. Unlike the Best Adaptation award, the original screenplay comes directly from a screenwriter's imagination. The César for Best Original Screenplay goes to Anatomy of a Fall. This is the second award that Justine Triet's film has won since the evening began. Also in this category were “Junkyard Dog,” “I Will Always See Your Faces,” “The Goldman Trial,” and “The Animal Kingdom.”
