The big winner of the Césars is in fact Anatomy of a Fall, winner of six Césars including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor and Best Editing. Directed by Justine Triet, this drama is about a family whose life is turned upside down when the father dies after a fall. Given the circumstances, the police investigate and begin to suspect his wife of killing her. Her son could then prove to be a crucial witness in the investigation. Anatomy of a Fall can be seen streaming on MyCanal from Saturday.

At the end of the 49th ceremony, the Académie des César decided to award the Best Film Award to “Anatomy of a Fall”. The film directed by Justine Triet therefore receives the highest award of the 2024 evening and a total of six statuettes. It competed with Junkyard Dog, I Will Always See Your Faces, The Goldman Trial and The Animal Kingdom.

Sandra Hülser won the statuette for best actress during the 2024 César ceremony. She faced Marion Cotillard, Léa Drucker, Virginie Efira and Hafsia Herzi. As a reminder, in Anatomy of a Fall she plays a writer accused of murdering her husband.
02/23/24 – 11:47 p.m. – Arieh Worthalter wins the César for best actor
The Césars awarded the best actor statuette to Arieh Worthalter. As a reminder, in the Goldman trial he plays Pierre Goldman, a far-left activist convicted of robberies and murder. In this category he met Romain Duris, Benjamin Lavernhe, Melvil Poupaud and Raphaël Quenard. It was the first time in his career that he was nominated for a César. In his speech, the actor called for a ceasefire in Gaza, “because, given the lessons of the past pain, the path taken is not part of the restoration of the world.”

It was Justine Triet who won the César for best director for the feature film “Anatomy of a Fall”. Opposite her were Catherine Breillat (Last Summer), Jeanne Herry (I will Always See Your Faces), Cédric Kahn (The Goldman Trial) and Thomas Cailley (The Animal Kingdom). This is the fourth Caesar for Anatomy of a Fall. The award-winning director didn't miss the opportunity to point out that she was only the second woman to win this award: “It's a bit scary and brilliant at the same time, it gives courage for the future.” She also wanted Sophie Fillières, who to pay tribute to the French director who died last summer.

The cameraman accompanies the director in bringing his creation to life on screen. Five films were nominated for the César for Best Cinematography: Anatomy of a Fall, The Passion of Dodin Bouffant, The Goldman Trial, The Animal Kingdom and The Three Musketeers (Parts 1 and 2). It was Animal Kingdom's cameraman who was called to the stage to accept his award.

It's Simple as Sylvain by Monia Chokri, which won best foreign film at the Césars this year. There were The Abduction, Dead Leaves, Oppenheimer and Perfect Days.
02/23/24 – 11:20 p.m. – Agnès Jaoui pays tribute to Jean-Pierre Bacri
After a funny and touching introduction by Jamel Debbouze, Agnès Jaoui took the stage at the Olympia to receive the honorary César, which rewards her entire career. “I know that by awarding this prize you are obviously and fundamentally appreciating the work I have done with Jean-Pierre and I am touched by your gesture. I see them as a sign of appreciation and friendship.” .. sung on the ukulele before the start of a speech.
02/23/24 – 11:06 p.m. – Agnès Jaoui, the most awarded woman in César history, is honored for her career
This year the Césars honor two figures of the seventh art, including a Frenchman. The actress, screenwriter and director Agnès Jaoui will receive an honorary César in 2024. She was previously awarded a César for Best Supporting Actress by the Academy in 1998 for “We Know the Song” and a César du Best Film in 2001 for “The Taste of Others.” She also won four Césars for best screenplay, which she shared with her partner Jean-Pierre Bacri. With this new award, Agnès Jaoui becomes the woman with the most awards in the history of the Césars, with no less than seven statuettes in different categories.
02/23/24 – 11:04 p.m. – “Les Filles d'Olfa” was named Best Documentary at the 2024 César Awards
Among the documentaries, the Academy members honored Olfa's Daughters by Kaouther Ben Hania, which won the César for best documentary. This documentary tells the story of a Tunisian mother of four daughters and a sisterhood that questions our societies. She denounces “the first livestream massacre” in Gaza and calls for the defense of Julian Assange “so that he does not suffer the same fate as Alexei Navalny.”

The Césars honor the best documentary short films. Fluid mechanics won the 2024 prize. Also in the competition were “The Actor or the Surprising Virtue of Lack of Understanding” and “The Effect of My Wrinkles”.
02/23/24 – 10:53 p.m. – “Anatomy of a Fall” wins the César for Best Original Screenplay
Unlike the Best Adaptation award, the original screenplay comes directly from a screenwriter's imagination. The César for Best Original Screenplay goes to Anatomy of a Fall. This is the second award that Justine Triet's film has won since the evening began. Also in this category were “Junkyard Dog,” “I Will Always See Your Faces,” “The Goldman Trial,” and “The Animal Kingdom.”
