In any case, sources have told Deadline that the actor will star in the as-yet-untitled film, which would be the first under his new partnership with Warner Bros. The move follows rumors that 61-year-old Tom Cruise was interested in working with big-name directors and continuing work on his big-budget films such as “Top Gun.”
The feature film is produced and directed by Alejandro G. Inarritu, from a screenplay he co-wrote in 2023 with Sabina Berman and Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolas Giacobone, his co-writers of Birdman, who reunite a decade later.
No further details have been released about the film, which is described as “top secret,” although Tom Cruise is also rumored to be co-producing. According to Deadline, it was Tom Cruise who wanted to meet Alejandro G. Inarritu as soon as possible when he learned that he would be meeting actors for his project.
Alejandro G. Inarritu's last English-language film was The Revenant (2015), which earned him an Oscar for Best Director (his second), and Leonardo DiCaprio his first Oscar for Best Actor.
The Mission: Impossible star received four Oscar nominations but never won an award.
