ArrivalCAN saga: The Conservatives attack the Bloc and the NDP

In a video shared on social media, the Conservative Party of Canada throws darts at the Bloc Québécois and the NDP for supporting the Liberals in voting on the 2021 and 2022 budgets, including two $12 million amounts earmarked for ArrivalCAN were intended.

These two votes took place in December 2021 and March 2022.

“Mr Blanchet claims he is outraged that the money was spent, but Mr Blanchet, you voted for this spending,” says Pierre Poilievre.

For his part, the leader of the Bloc Québécois in the House of Commons, Alain Therrien, explains that this vote involved numerous expenses.

“It’s really Poilievre-style populism,” he said. This is an extremely broad vote and we will not be scrutinizing all of the government's spending. We're just going to tell him to go there and give the money to the provinces, to Quebec and to the people who need this money.”

Following a report by the Auditor General and the Procurement Ombudsman, elected officials who sit on the Government Operations Committee are now calling for an investigation into the integrity of the public sector by the commissioner.
