Strong earthquake shakes El Salvador

Later information indicates that the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.6 and that its epicenter was off the coastal strip of Nicaragua, 98 kilometers south of Meanguera Island, at a depth of 60 kilometers, and a tsunami threat on the Salvadoran coast is ruled out .

Authorities reported no structural damage, fatalities or injuries due to this phenomenon.

Also this morning, an earthquake measuring 2.6 on the Richter scale was reported that struck the city of Santo Domingo, in the department of San Vicente (East), which was attributed to the activation of geological faults in the area.

The earthquake, which was also felt in parts of the departments of Cuscatlán, northern La Paz and southwest Cabañas, had a mean magnitude IV on the modified Mercali scale.
