Wendy Williams' son reveals her mother's dementia is 'alcohol-related'

Wendy Williams' son revealed his mother's frontotemporal dementia was due to her alcoholism.

Kevin Hunter Jr. explained in the two-part Lifetime documentary “Where Is Wendy Williams?” that alcohol negatively affected the former talk show host's “headspace and her brain.”

“I was really able to learn more about my mother’s inner workings,” the 23-year-old shared in Sunday’s episode.

“[Doctors] Basically she said because she was drinking so much, it started to have an effect on her headspace and her brain. So I think they said it was alcohol-induced dementia.”

Williams, 59, first learned of her brain damage in 2019 when she entered a rehabilitation facility in Florida, but she didn't receive an official dementia and aphasia diagnosis until 2023.

The former shock jock's niece, Alex Finnie, said she found out about her aunt's diagnosis in 2022 but suspected she was unwell when she started forgetting memories and facts.

The former talk show host's team announced last week that Williams had been diagnosed with dementia and aphasia. She remains in a secret treatment facility her entire life. lifespan

“But after seeing my aunt and actually spending time with her in the state she was in, I quickly realized that things just weren't normal,” she said in the document.

“It’s heartbreaking.”

Finnie also said that the COVID-19 pandemic, the death of Williams' mother and her divorce from Kevin Hunter Sr. have worsened her condition.

The docuseries showed Williams continued to drink alcohol despite her known substance abuse problems, but her former spokesman Shawn Zanotti dismissed the concerns, saying the media personality “knows her limits.”

Williams' former lawyer, meanwhile, expressed doubts about the star's diagnoses and instead blamed the court-ordered conservatorship ahead of the show's premiere on Saturday.

LaShawn Thomas posted an old video on Instagram in which Williams can be seen sitting healthy in bed and saying that she enjoys working out at the gym.

“You can clearly see the difference between Wendy's well-being during her time here in Florida with her son caring for her and the lack of well-being in New York under this 'guardianship,'” Thomas wrote in the caption.

“These Wendy’s are not the same. How could her health deteriorate so quickly and why is her only child not allowed to be by her side? She wasn't like that when he took care of her [her].”

The Miami Entertainment Law Group's attorney claimed she filmed Williams two weeks before the court ordered her to return to New York to be placed under a conservatorship that took effect in 2022.
