Fátima Bernardes quits working at after 37 years · TV

The journalist and presenter who was the face of Globo for almost four decades, Fátima Bernardes, is no longer an employee of the channel. His contract expired at the end of last year and was not renewed. From now on, 61yearold Fátima will work for a specific project, that is, she will only have a contract with Globo for the duration of a specific program. And there are no projects planned for her in the coming months.

For the first time in 37 years, the former presenter of Jornal Nacional and Encontro will have to spend an entire year without any connection to Globo. His last project, The Voice Brasil, was canceled last year after 12 editions. Just like Gente, a show she debuted on the pay channel GNT in October, it didn't take off and won't have a new season.

Globo confirmed this firsthand through its communications section TV news that Fátima's contract expired and was not renewed. The station has been pursuing a costcutting policy since the turn of the millennium, which includes no longer employing those who have no work to do.

Free from Globo (and without a job for the first time since graduating with a degree in journalism in 1983), Fátima goes to work for the channel's “new” competition. Last Friday (23) she was announced as a reinforcement of the Play 9 agency in the “coverage” of the Olympic Games in Paris. It will be part of the Paris É Brasa project, in which journalists and influencers produce brand to be broadcast on YouTube and other social networks.

It won't exactly be a return for the 2002 World Cup “muse” to cover the Olympics, which she did in 1992 (Barcelona) and 1996 (Atlanta). Fátima will travel to Paris, but Play9 does not have the rights to broadcast the competitions, the clashes between athletes. It will show behindthescenes videos and interesting facts in collaboration with the COB (Brazilian Olympic Committee) and YouTube, always with the involvement of sponsors.

In a video posted on social media, Fátima said she was “excited” about Paris É Brasa because it will be her first 100% digital project made entirely for the internet. “I'm going to be in an Olympic city again and listen to these incredible stories, of successes, of victories, of overcomings, of perseverance, and that really cheers me up,” said the new YouTuber (see the video on Instagram from here).

Play9 is a communications company that defines itself as “100% Brazilian mediatech”. It looks after around 80 influencers and journalists, produces audiovisual content, creates and manages channels for people and companies on YouTube. His partners are the YouTuber Felipe Neto, the journalist João Pedro Paes Leme (exGlobo) and the exvolleyball player and exCOB Marcus Vinicius Freire.

From intern to Globo star

Fátima Gomes Bernardes wanted to become a dancer and became part of Globo's Corps de Ballet and took part in music videos produced for Fantástico. But the fear of not being successful led her to give up her career and invest in journalism. In 1983, in his final year of study, he began collaborating with the newspaper O Globo. Three years later, she was selected for a television journalism course at Globo and became an intern at Fantástico.

One of the most beautiful developments in Brazilian television journalism began. Fátima was a reporter and moderated almost all of the house's news programs from 1989 onwards. She started at Jornal da Globo, where she shared a bench with Eliakim Araújo and then with William Bonner, to whom she was married for 26 years.

Fátima, then the only presenter with short hair, became a celebrity in journalism and was promoted to Fantástico. He remained on Sundays from 1992 to 1996 until he took over from Jornal Hoje. Two years later, in March 1998, shortly after the birth of her triplets, she replaced Lillian Witte Fibe at Jornal Nacional.

For almost 14 years, until December 2011, Fátima shared Brazilian television's main news platform with her then husband. As part of a career change, he switched from journalism to entertainment in 2012. She was the presenter of Encontro com Fátima Bernardes for ten years. In 2022 and 2023 he presented The Voice Brasil without the shine from before.
