An American soldier died this Monday, February 26, from his injuries after attempting to self-immolate in front of the Israeli embassy in Washington, filming his action live on Twitch. He was rushed to hospital, “succumbed to his injuries and died last night,” a Pentagon spokeswoman told AFP.
“No more complicity in genocide”
The soldier wanted to protest against the conflict that has raged for five months in Gaza, a Palestinian enclave that is being relentlessly bombarded by the Israeli army following the Hamas terrorist attacks on October 7. In a video broadcast on the Twitch platform and then played on other social networks, this man in military fatigues pours liquid on himself before chanting “Free Palestine” and setting fire in front of the Israeli embassy.
“I will no longer participate in genocide. I will take part in an extreme act of protest,” the soldier adds in this video, which AFP could not immediately verify. The American Air Force confirmed to the press that it was a serving airman, without providing any further information.
