Trump’s social media company begins hiring producers for a MAGA challenger from Netflix

Former President Donald Trump’s media company has begun hiring staff for its video-streaming platform in a bid to build a MAGA challenger to mainstream providers like Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+.

In job listings posted Wednesday, Trump Media and Technology Group said it is seeking a content buyer and development manager to create programs for its TMTG+ service.

The service is part of Trump’s attempt to build an alternative media ecosystem after being ditched from Facebook and YouTube following last year’s Jan. 6 violence.

But its Twitter challenger, Truth Social, has struggled to find buyers since its launch and has seen downloads fall.

It’s still not available on phones with Android software.

The advert suggests that TMTG+ will offer a wide range of programming – some original and some purchased – similar to other existing platforms.

“Trump Media & Technology Group’s video-on-demand streaming service will be a ‘Big Tent’ platform offering broad-based entertainment based on free speech,” it said.

‘In addition to social media platform Truth Social, our SVOD platform TMTG+ will be home to a variety of unscripted, scripted and original content.’

The Content Development Manager will work on development, casting and pilot projects.

“The role will generate and develop internal concepts for unscripted original content, short series episodes and specials,” the ad reads.

‘Our ideal candidate will be able to prioritize and efficiently multi-task in a fast-paced environment while meeting strict deadlines.’

Little more is known about the platform’s plans, such as its launch date or planned titles.

A request for more information was not immediately answered by TMTG.

However, according to documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the platform has already hired Scott St. John to lead the project.

He is a former NBC producer whose credits include the game show Deal or No Deal.

The company’s website offers more details on how it plans to offer itself as a conservative-friendly service.

“TMTG+ is an on-demand streaming service that offers news, big tent entertainment, exciting documentaries, sports programming and more,” the company says.

‘The American public is looking for entertainment that hasn’t woken up, and TMTG+ will provide content for everyone.’

It’s one of Trump’s numerous revenue streams launched since leaving the White House.

A coffee table book has grossed more than $20 million since its launch last year.

And the former president is making his mark as a motivational speaker, visiting arenas across the country as part of the American Freedom Tour.

Tickets go up to $5,000 for premium seating and a photo with Trump’s son, Don Jr.

Even more exclusive packages — with no published price tag — are available for fans who want to sit down with the former President in person.

Meanwhile, Trump continues to hold rallies – promoting his illustrated book – in support of his favorite Midterm candidates.

His next rally is in Wyoming later this month, where he will seek to boost the campaign of Harriet Hageman, a congressional candidate challenging Rep. Liz Cheney, one of Trump’s most vocal critics in the Republican Party.

However, its Truth Social app is struggling to compete with more established platforms like Twitter or conservative favorite GETTR.

It was revealed last month that Josh Adams and Billy Boozer had quit their jobs as heads of technology and product development less than a year after joining.

Her departure – reported by Reuters – follows a difficult launch of the company’s iPhone app on February 20.

Weeks later, many users are still on a waiting list and cannot access the platform.

Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) chief executive Devin Nunes, a former Republican congressman, said publicly that the company aims to have the app fully operational in the United States by the end of March.

Industry analysts estimate that the app has been downloaded a total of 1.2 million times – putting it far behind other apps targeting conservative users like Parler with 11.3 million and GETTR with 6.8 million installs.

The reliance on iPhone users and the lack of an Android app could be a particular downside.

Android phones make up about 40 percent of the US market, but are much higher among Trump supporters.

At the time of the last election, the Trump campaign found that almost two-thirds of its base was using Android phones — partly out of distrust of Apple and partly because of the cost of iPhones.
