Fear and shock among Amish people living in Pennsylvania, the American state that hosts most members of the community, after the murder of a 23-year-old pregnant woman in Spartansburg.
The young woman, Rebekah Byler, was found dead by police in the almost entirely Amish home in the city. “These things don't happen here, we're shocked,” Charleen Hajec, a pharmacist born and raised in Spartansburg, told ABC News. “We are evaluating all clues,” said the police, but the 23-year-old’s death is currently still a mystery.
The victim was six months pregnant and her two young children were at home when officers found the body while her husband was outside. Some neighbors said they saw a red Jeep pulling in and out of the home's driveway, a unique circumstance since the Amish themselves travel only in horse-drawn carriages on highways and state highways.
