Saman Yasin originally successfully appealed against his death sentence. But now the arrested rapper has appealed to the judiciary to execute him.
Rapper Saman Yasin, who was imprisoned in Iran, appealed to the Iranian judiciary to sentence him to death. This is reported by the radio station Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. In the past, Yasin, who was arrested in 2022 amid nationwide protests against the mullahs' rule, said he was physically and psychologically tortured in prison.
According to the report, Yasin posted a letter from prison on Instagram. BBC Persia published the letter. In it, Yasin writes: “Please impose my death penalty. I have no objection and I agree. Take my life, bring it.”
Yasin's case must be retried
Saman Yasin rapped about inequality, oppression and unemployment. He was accused of “war against God”, for which the Revolutionary Court in the capital Tehran sentenced him to death last year. However, the musician appealed. The Supreme Court agreed and overturned the verdict. Yasin's case should therefore be retried.
Yasin is not the first prisoner to make allegations of torture against authorities: imprisoned rapper Toomaj Salehi has also done so. After Salehi was briefly released, a court resentenced him to prison earlier this year. Read more here.
