COVID-19: Quebec reports 30 new deaths and a significant drop in hospital admissions

Quebec’s death toll rose to 30 COVID-19-related deaths on Friday, but hospital admissions continued to improve.

On the eve of mask-wearing being lifted in certain public spaces, 1,754 people in hospitals still tested positive for the virus, or 67 fewer than the day before.

The number of intensive care patients has hardly changed at 59 occupied beds (-1).

La Belle province reported 900 more infections among those with access to testing centers and 182 self-reported positive rapid tests.

On the Ontario side, hospital admissions remained relatively stable (1453, +2), particularly in the ICU (168, -7).

The most populous province also reported 1,969 new cases detected by PCR testing and 18 additional deaths.

The latest data on the development of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours in Quebec shows:

  • 900 new cases out of a total of 1,056,177 infected*;
  • 30 new deaths, total 15,256 deaths;
  • 6,115 healthcare workers absent for COVID-related reasons (preventive withdrawal, isolation, waiting for results, etc.);
  • 1,754 hospital admissions, down 67 from the previous day;
    • 92 new entries,
    • 159 new releases;
  • 59 people in intensive care, down 1 from the previous day;
    • 6 new entries,
    • 7 new releases;
  • 13,310 samples taken on May 11;
  • So far 207,422 self-declared rapid tests, of which 169,861 are positive: 224 declared for yesterday, of which 182 are positive.

*Remember that the number of cases listed is not representative of the situation as access to screening centers is restricted to priority constituencies.
