The deaths of dozens of Palestinians during a humanitarian aid distribution in the Gaza Strip this Thursday (29) could complicate the already difficult negotiations between Hamas and Israel on a temporary ceasefire.
According to the Islamist fundamentalist group, at least 104 people were killed and 760 injured by Israeli forces as they waited in line for food in the first weeks of the conflict in Gaza City, the devastated enclave's main municipality.
“The negotiations conducted by the movement's leadership are not an open process, despite the blood of our people,” warned a statement from Hamas, which has already blamed Israel for any failure in the negotiations.
But a Jewish country's military spokesman said Palestinians had “surrounded” and “looted” aid trucks in the northern Gaza Strip, putting Israeli troops in danger.
“During the incident, dozens of people were trampled by the crowd,” the army said, adding that soldiers “fired on those who surrounded the convoy.” In addition, Israeli forces released a video showing people surrounding the trucks.
Farright Israeli National Security Minister Itamar BenGvir called for an end to the distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza. “Today it was proven that this is not only madness as long as our hostages remain in the Gaza Strip, but that it is also harming the soldiers of the army,” he said.
The US government, in turn, described the incident as a “serious incident” and lamented the “loss of innocent lives” in the Palestinian enclave. .
