Amazon stops deliveries of Prime Video Services in Russia

Amazon.com Inc. suspended retail product shipments and access to Prime Video for customers in Russia, part of a broader effort by the company and other tech giants to sever ties with the country.

Amazon’s decision means that consumers in Russia will no longer be able to order goods from Amazon or use Prime Video’s streaming services.

Although the company does not distinguish sales from Russia in its financial statements, its customer base is minimal compared to its largest markets. Amazon’s customers are primarily in the US and Europe, and the online retailer said it has no data centers, infrastructure or offices in Russia. The company said it has a long-standing policy of not doing business with the Russian government.

Big tech companies have distanced themselves from Russia after its invasion of Ukraine. Apple recently stopped selling the iPhone and other products in the country, and Dell Technologies also suspended product sales there.

Amazon said it provides support for cybersecurity in Ukraine and has donated $5 million to organizations providing assistance on the ground. The company previously stopped accepting new customers in Russia and Belarus for its Amazon Web Services cloud computing division. The company’s cloud competitor, Microsoft Corp., suspended new sales in Russia last week.
