Barkov isn't surprised by Montembeault's success

Despite the Montreal Canadiens' failures, Samuel Montembeault is having the best season of his career and a former Florida Panthers teammate is proud to have watched him grow up in the National Hockey League.

Captain Aleksander Barkov was interviewed by journalists before the meeting on Thursday evening at the Amerant Bank Arena and said a few words about the goalkeeper who will face his team in the evening.

“He's a good guy. He wasn't here long, but I remember him very well. He is an excellent goalkeeper and worked very hard. I’m really happy for him,” he said.

Montembeault began his career at Florida in 2018-2019, a few years after being drafted in the third round by the Panthers in 2015. He played 25 games for the big club, but spent most of his time in the American League before being claimed on waivers by CH in October 2021.

This season, the Quebec native has a record of 13-10-4, a goals-against average of 3.16 and an efficiency percentage of 0.904.

When talking about Barkov, head coach Paul Maurice mentioned that he sees some nice similarities between him and Nick Suzuki. The two middle players responsible for all three zones are also good leaders of their respective groups.
