- Jenny DuVander's tongue is officially the largest female tongue in the world
- Her tongue, which is larger than a soda can, was measured using dental floss
- She was inspired to apply for the record after reading the Guinness Book with her son
According to Guinness World Records, an Oregon woman has the largest female tongue in the world.
Jenny DuVander's tongue is 5.21 inches in circumference – thicker than a soda can.
DuVander was inspired to apply for the record when she was reading the 2023 Guinness Book of World Records with her son before bed and saw a picture of the record holder for largest male speech.
Since DuVander did not previously know that the tongue circumference was a record, he immediately measured her tongue circumference at home and found that it was at least 12 cm.
Later, her dentist officially measured her tongue with a piece of dental floss.
Licking the competition – Jenny DuVander's tongue has been called the largest female tongue in the world.
The Oregon woman's tongue measures 5.21 inches in circumference, making it thicker than a soda can.
DuVander's dentist measured her tongue with dental floss.
To make her tongue bigger, DuVander has to bend it, which is good because, as she noted to GWR, “If my tongue was always that big, I don't think I could talk.”
DuVander first discovered her unique talent as a teenager and says her strong tongue helped her play the flute.
“When you articulate a note on a flute, it’s actually called reeding,” she said.
To avoid having her tongue talents pigeonholed, Jenny is also able to turn her tongue upside down and grab her nose with her tongue.
For DuVander, the thrill of being a Guinness World Records titleholder was the most rewarding part of her experience.
She credits her decision to apply to her son Evan, who loves Guinness World Records and reads the books every year.
For others who want to compare the size of her tongue to that of the reigning world champion, DuVander offered some tips.
“Start by opening your teeth and trying to reach both the top and bottom teeth at the same time with your tongue,” she said.
“Then gradually increase the space between your teeth.”
