Pope Francis warned this Friday (1st) about the supposed evils of gender studies and declared that the Catholic Church would conduct studies on the subject.

The pope called the theory a “terrible ideology” that threatens humanity.

In a speech to participants at a Vatican conference on the roles of men and women according to Christian teaching, Francis said that “gender ideology” is a threat because it aims to erase differences between the sexes.

“I have asked that studies be carried out on this terrible ideology of our time that eliminates differences,” the pope said. “The abolition of differences means the abolition of humanity. However, man and woman live in a fruitful tension.”

For these scientists, whether one is a man or a woman depends not only on one's genitals or chromosomes, but also on cultural patterns and behavior patterns. Such patterns, according to theorists in the field, are acquired through life in society. Conservative groups believe that the conclusions of these studies about gender have not been confirmed by the exact and biological sciences.

In 2016, he denounced a “veiled indoctrination” of French textbooks influenced by this theory, which triggered a wave of criticism in France.

In 2019, the Vatican released a text intended to help Catholic school teachers challenge gender “ideology” that “denies the natural difference between men and women.”

In early 2020, Francisco also stated in an interview that gender studies “seek to undermine humanity in all areas and in all possible educational variants” and that they “implicitly propose destruction at the root of God's creative project.”

According to the Pope, his comments do not refer to homosexuals: “My reference is broader and concerns a dangerous cultural root.”

The 87yearold pope said he was still recovering from a recent cold and asked an assistant to read his speech but first he wants to “solidify” his perception of gender studies.
