To realize his dream of bringing the science fiction novel to the screen duneDenis Villeneuve surrounded himself with two loyal accomplices from Quebec who accompanied him on this great adventure.
Artistic director Patrice Vermette and producer (and Villeneuve's partner) Tanya Lapointe have been involved in all phases of production of the two Dune films over the past six years.
Patrice Vermette is the decorative architect behind the creation of the Dune universe. His work on the first film in the saga earned him the Oscar for Best Art Direction two years ago.
After serving as executive producer on Dune: Part I, Tanya Lapointe found her responsibilities increasing on the set of the second film.
“Dune: Part II was the best professional experience of my life because I feel like I grew as a producer and blossomed creatively,” admits the former culture journalist of French origin. -ontarian.
“Expectations were high, but I knew I was ready!”
“A master class”
Tanya Lapointe, also a director, even helped Denis Villeneuve by preparing for him to shoot several scenes in the film.
“All the ideas for the film came from Denis, who had them,” she explains. But I've worked with him long enough to instinctively know what he'll like. However, there are very complex scenes in the film that had to be rehearsed beforehand. I did this with another film crew while Denis was busy on the main set. I sent what I shot to Denis and he gave me his impressions and told me to try this or that thing to push the idea even further. For me it was a master class because I implemented his vision.”
In addition to her role as producer, Tanya Lapointe has written the book “The Art and Soul of Dune: Part Two”, which traces the making of the film in images and text – and which will be published at the same time as the film on Friday.
