Share TV dates with friends, feel strong emotions with several other viewers at the same time, take part in a gathering during an original broadcast. Émilie Bibeau has often been moved in front of the small screen…
Émilie, which children's programs impressed you?
First passepartout. My entire generation was deeply influenced by Passe-Partout. I was hooked and it was the first time I experienced what it was like to have an artistic social connection with my friends, a show that everyone could relate to. Then there was Watatatow. It was the first time I heard a program on the way home from school that was about social issues and topics that I had wanted to hear about since I was a teenager. Finally Rémi without a family. I cried so much, I thought it was terrible! It broke my heart throughout my entire childhood.

What are your favorite TV memories from your childhood?
I remember in elementary school I loved listening to the soap operas L'Héritage and Caleb's Daughters. I was really looking forward to it when it was broadcast day, I was really excited. Because of the different platforms and the different types of broadcasting, we rarely experience that anymore when we watch a TV drama together.
Did you watch a lot of TV when you were young?
I would say I had normal consumption. My parents made it a point to go outside and read so I wasn't glued to the screen.

Is there a child character who influenced you?
The little mermaid ! Haha! She got me into synchronized swimming because I dreamed of being a mermaid! I'm a very good swimmer today, so I thank her for that!
Is there another song from a show that sticks in your mind?
The song of the mysterious cities of gold! It's a catchy tune and I've heard it so many times.

Is there a character you wish you could have played for children?
My stepchildren dream of me being on the show “14 Billion Things to Know.” [deux saisons sont disponibles sur ICI Tou.tv].
What universe would you like to introduce to children?
I admit that it gives me great pleasure to take on the voice of Cathon, a character who is both funny and educational. I want everyone to discover the two seasons of the enchanting series “The List of Things That Exist” on the NFB website [onf.ca].
What do you think of today's children's television?
I think it's still just as rich and imaginative, but we need to protect it and make sure it always has a special place! It plays a very important role in both entertaining and educating young people.
