(CNN) – Victoria Beckham's show at Paris Fashion Week was disrupted by animal rights activists as they joined her models on the catwalk to protest her brand's use of animal products such as leather.
Protesters wearing white vests emblazoned with the words “Turn your back on animal skins” and “Animals are not fabric” walked alongside models on the catwalk on Friday, holding signs reading “Long live vegan leather” before being led away by security.
Animal rights group Peta said that while the Beckham brand had banned the use of fur and exotic skins in its collections, it still used leather, including calfskin.
“No article of clothing or accessory is worth violently slaughtering and skinning a sensitive and intelligent animal,” Mimi Bekhechi, vice president of PETA Europe, said in a statement.
“We urge Victoria Beckham to embrace the ethical and environmentally friendly innovations available today, such as high-quality leather made from apples, grapes, pineapples, mushrooms and more,” Bekhechi added.
According to the group, Peta activists also previously protested on the catwalks of Coach in New York, Burberry in London and Fendi in Milan.
At the end of the show, Beckham walked the runway on crutches, which her husband David said was due to an accident at the gym.
The Fall/Winter 2024 collection featured styles including sheer dresses, pieces with sculpted curved hems and necklines, and boxy blazers.
