Many Quebecers use the school holidays to travel to our neighbors to the south. At 3 p.m., the U.S. Customs website said the wait time at the Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle post office for travelers was 30 minutes. Earlier in the day the delay was 110 minutes.

Several cars lined up at the Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle border crossing on Saturday.

In fact the waiting time was longer than stated. Isabelle Hébert and her family waited 3 hours and 40 minutes before going through customs. “Hopefully things will be better when we get back next Sunday,” she said. Several families also told La Presse that they had waited more than three hours to cross the border.

Five routes are currently open for travel to the United States. Only two were in office earlier in the day.

“We have been standing in line for two hours and we are still far from customs,” said Fouzia Ali-Haimoud.

At the St-Armand/Philipsburg station, which connects the towns of Philipsburg, Quebec, with Highgate Springs, Vermont, the delay was even longer, with a 60-minute wait in the afternoon. The quickest way into the United States is through customs at Stanstead in Estrie without having to wait.

Mild weather for spring break

Families living in Quebec can take advantage of “very mild” spring break weather with “above normal temperatures,” said Environment Canada meteorologist Gregory Yang. In Montreal, the expected temperatures are 13°C on Monday and 15°C on Tuesday. The weather is expected to be cloudy, especially in southern Quebec.

However, rain is expected in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean and Mont-Tremblant Park. “The system will bring mostly rain showers, but possibly some snow showers as well. In Mont-Tremblant Park we may have a few snowflakes, but unfortunately not enough for winter sports,” says Mr. Yang.

Temperatures will drop in the second half of the week. Highs between 0 and 5°C are expected from Friday. “It is still mild, but it will be cooler than at the beginning of the week. »
