Donors immediately stopped contributing, deepening the desperation of 2.2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

However, this week the European Commission announced that it would allocate 68 million euros (R365.3 million) to support the Palestinian population across the region, to be implemented through international partners such as the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
This is in addition to the 82 million euros (R440.4 million) in assistance to be implemented by UNRWA in 2024, bringing the total to 150 million euros (R805.7 million).
