For the second year in a row, the Montreal Canadiens made a mistake and let their rivals win in a shootout.
On Saturday evening, the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated head coach Martin St-Louis' men 4-3 at Amalie Arena.
Like Thursday night, in a loss to the Florida Panthers, CH allowed a goal while playing with an extra man on the ice. This once again allowed their rivals to level the score at 3-3, force extra time and triumph. It was Tyler Motte who scored this important goal. It was also the 11th time this season that the Montreal team allowed a goal on the power play.
At the start of the third period, Josh Anderson deflected Cole Caufield's shot past goalkeeper Andrei Vasilevskiy to give the visitors the lead.
The Canadian also started strongly in this game against the Bolts and scored two goals in the first third.
Joel Armia received a pass from Kaiden Guhle in the power over and beat Vasilevskiy with an excellent low shot. It was the Finn's eleventh this season. Before the end of the first period, Jake Evans took advantage of Brendan Gallagher's good work in the corner of the ice to double the visitors' lead.
However, the crowd favorites recovered in the second third. Brayden Point and Anthony Cirelli put the puck behind Cayden Primeau's back. The latter finished his match with 30 saves.
The Habs will look to return to victory on Tuesday night. On this occasion, the Bleu Blanc Rouge players will meet the Predators in Nashville.
