New fashion on dating apps in Israel: Tinder photos from Gaza

Israeli soldiers have started updating their Tinder profiles with photos taken in the Gaza Strip – in the middle of a siege by the Israeli army.

An Israeli woman was the first to report this new phenomenon in a publication on X on February 26th. “Tell me, does it seem reasonable to you that 40% of Tinder in Israel looks like this?” She wrote in Hebrew while sharing profiles she found on Tinder.

In these photos, the young men hold weapons, pose in the destroyed homes of Gazans, proudly display the devastation the Israeli army has inflicted on the Gaza Strip and even joke about the conflict raging there.

After this publication, she said she received many messages from Israeli women sharing their experiences with the same type of profile on multiple dating apps.

“What can we say? At least in Gaza we are exposed to destruction. If the media fails to do its job, we can always expect male stupidity,” she said in a later release.

A male user pointed out in the comments in Hebrew that there had been a spike in the popularity of military men since October 7, which he said explains the phenomenon.

She also says she noticed that many of them are not Israeli. “There are many French, British and even a few Americans who came here specifically to join the IDF and meet 'a good Jewish woman,'” the woman replied to a comment on her post.
