Surprisingly, it has been almost a decade since the last installment of the popular animated series, Kung Fu Panda 3, debuted in 2016.

It marks Jack's return to the iconic role of Po and builds on his Emmy-winning performance in the Netflix series Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight.

In Kung Fu Panda 4, Po embarks on a journey from the quiet Valley of Peace to the bustling city and meets his biggest threat yet.

A new antagonist known as the Chameleon appears with extraordinary abilities and the determination to face the Dragon Warrior.

This new enemy forces Po to face his former enemies and brings back the fearsome opponents from the first two Kung Fu Panda films, namely Tai Lung (Ian McShane) and Lord Shen (Gary Oldman).

Faced with the great challenge of dealing with this threat, Po has the additional task of hunting down the next Dragon Warrior.

The lovable panda knows he can't be the peacekeeper forever, so he's looking for someone who can fill his shoes

The official synopsis reads: “After three death-defying adventures defeating world-class villains with his unmatched courage and insane martial arts skills, Po the Dragon Warrior (Black) is called by fate to…take a break “More specifically, he was appointed spiritual leader of the Valley of Peace.”

“Kung Fu Panda 4” is directed by Mike Mitchell (“Trolls,” “Shrek Forever After”) and Stephanie Ma Stine (“She-Ra and the Rebel Princesses”).

The film was produced by Rebecca Huntley (“The Bad Guys”).

During a conversation with Collider in December 2023, Mitchell discussed the extensive creative process.

“It took us a long time. And that's exactly why it took so long to make. We wanted to make sure we had the best story going forward, and that took a while. “We didn’t want to just do another one,” he explained.

“We knew it would be fun and action-packed, but we needed to make sure we had the right story to tell that would allow our main character to grow and learn, and we wanted to find the right theme.”

“Then, probably just as importantly, we wanted to find the perfect villain.” We really wanted to settle on a great villain. That's why it took so long.'

He went on to say that fans will be surprised to see that their favorite characters are all coming back for the latest adventure.

“By the way, all the old characters are back – Mr. Ping, Li, played by Bryan Cranston, Shifu, played by Dustin Hoffman, and then James Hong, who plays Ping.”

“Tons of characters. All characters come back. Every single character you remember comes back, and a few villains I won't spoil.

“But what we really wanted to do was introduce a whole new cast of characters, which is what we did.”
