Luka Rocco Magnotta, who was convicted on all charges in the gruesome 2012 murder of a Chinese student, has been moved from prison, the Toronto Sun has learned.

The notorious murderer would now be imprisoned at La Macaza Establishment, a medium-security prison in the Hautes-Laurentides.
Magnotta was imprisoned in Port-Cartier and apparently received permission from the authorities for the transfer after several requests.
According to Toronto media, the forty-year-old now claims he is transgender and needs special treatment.
Violette, Magnotta's new name, was also reportedly given permission to pack in La Macaza with the prisoner he married in 2017.

Several doctors at McGill University reportedly opposed the inmate's transfer, claiming he did not suffer from gender dysphoria but rather had a “fragile identity,” according to documents obtained by the Toronto Sun.
The assassin's request was rejected in 2022, while the Federal Court insisted that his prison conditions remained “maximum.”
With his transfer to the town of Laurentians, Magnotta joins serial killer and rapist Paul Bernado, who will be transferred to the medium security prison in 2023.
Bernado's arrival in La Macaza sparked resentment among families, considering the man kidnapped, tortured, raped and killed two teenage girls in Ontario in the early 1990s.
