Countries near Haiti are mobilizing in the face of the wave of violence
What is the international mission?
At the time, Brazil held the presidency of the Council, and the approval was in response to a request from the Haitian government itself.
For the Brazilian government, Haitian political actors must insist on dialogue to organize new elections in the country and ensure the safety of voters and candidates.
According to the adopted resolution, the mission will be led by Kenya and funded by international voluntary contributions.
According to the resolution, the MSS must continue to:
- Help combat threats to peace, stability and security in Haiti.
- Providing operational support to the Haitian National Police;
- Providing training, formulating plans and conducting joint operations;
- Protecting infrastructure that is considered critical.
When does implementation begin?
In a statement released last week, the Kenyan government said it was “ready” to send about a thousand police officers to Haiti to join the multinational mission. However, the government did not announce a date for the transmission.
According to the statement, other countries have already agreed to strengthen the mission, including: Benin, Chad, Bangladesh, Barbados and the Bahamas.

Restriction on gun sales
In the same context in which it adopted the resolution on the multinational mission, the UN Council also approved an embargo on the transfer of arms and ammunition to Haiti.
However, according to the approved regulation, the embargo does not apply if the weapon or ammunition is acquired by the Haitian government or there is a UN authorization for the acquisition.
