(Ottawa) The state funeral of former prime minister Brian Mulroney, who died last Thursday at the age of 84, will take place March 23 in Montreal.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's office announced the date of the ceremony, which will take place at Notre-Dame Basilica in Old Montreal.
The funeral will be preceded by a state rally in Ottawa and Montreal so that Canadians can honor Mr. Mulroney's contributions to public life and offer their condolences.
“Brian Mulroney never stopped working for Canada. He was a defender of the values that bind us as Canadians and we will always remember him as a force for the common good,” Justin Trudeau said in a press release.
“His funeral will give us the opportunity to honor his incredible legacy, which will shape our country for many generations to come,” he added.

Canada's 18th Prime Minister died last Thursday surrounded by his loved ones.
His legacy was honored by the entire political class and all groups.
The “little guy from Baie-Comeau”, architect of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), has also left his mark on the environment, with his fight against acid rain and his commitment to preserving the ozone layer.
He is also known for his fight against the apartheid regime in South Africa and the release of Nelson Mandela.
