Strache back in Ibiza: Perspectives on the toenails

Puls 4 interviewed the former head of the FPÖ – of all the village places in Ibiza where he sealed his downfall. A lesson in resilience to be seen on Tuesday.

At first, he barely recognizes it, the room on a farm in Ibiza where Heinz-Christian Strache had the conversation that cost him his career. “This is not the living room I was in!” he says after being escorted to the remote house by Pulse 4’s director of information, Corinna Milborn. “Even I recognize that, Mr. Strache,” she contradicts. Yes, it’s the “villa”, yes, it’s the bedroom, the couch and yes, he said those things back then. Even if the former FPÖ leader and vice-chancellor still doesn’t want to admit it. Three years after the Ibiza video appeared, Milborn interviewed him for the “Mr. Strache drives to Ibiza. Back to the end” and he accepted the invitation. In order to “close the chapter – finally”, as he puts it.

Visually, the video scene looks like that time. The table with the rootstock base and glass top, the gray-brown sofa, the brown leather armchair. Milborn calls the finca “a little rundown”. It’s moldy. “Completely rotten,” judges Strache. It looks much smaller than he remembers. How can he believe that an oligarch’s niece lives there? He didn’t have any of that – and that detail is one of the few things you learn in conversation that you’re not so familiar with.
