Cuba congratulates the new President of the United Arab Emirates

Havana, 15 May (EFE) .- The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, this Sunday congratulated and wished Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan every success for his nomination as the new President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) following the death of former head of state Khalifa bin Zayed.

“Congratulations on behalf of the Cuban people and government to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on his election as President of the United Arab Emirates,” the island’s ruler said in a message published on Twitter.

Díaz-Canel wished the new President of the United Arab Emirates “success in his functions” and reiterated his willingness to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez also congratulated Bin Zayed on Twitter on his appointment and called for “further strengthening of relations of friendship and cooperation”.

After serving nearly a decade as the “de facto” leader of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was this Saturday appointed as the country’s new president, one of the most developed in the Middle East trying to become the main power in the to become region.

Cuba and the UAE established ambassadorial-level diplomatic relations in 2002.
