The little girl was born by a surrogate mother last December, Grimes told Vanity Fair in an extensive interview published Thursday.
Although the 33-year-old Canadian singer was apparently not about to announce the birth of her second child, nicknamed “Y”, she broke the news after Vanity Fair journalist Devin Gordon heard the baby cry.
Musk, 48, has five more children — twins Griffin and Xavier and triplets Damian, Saxon and Kai — from a previous marriage.
The couple split in September 2021, but Grimes, née Claire Elise Boucher, described their relationship status as “very moving”.
“There’s no real word for it,” she told Vanity Fair. “Maybe I would call him my boyfriend, but we are very mobile. We live in different houses. We are best friends. I don’t expect other people to understand that.”
On Thursday, Grimes told fans that her Vanity Fair cover story was intended to talk about her work, not discuss her personal life. “Def held back a lot, contrary to heading 2” she tweetedadding, “I didn’t want them to find out about my daughter, so please respect her privacy as I would like her to be able to live as private a life as possible.”
She later clarified her relationship status in a separate tweet, saying that she and Musk broke up again after the Vanity Fair article was written, but added that Musk was “my best friend and the love of my life and my life and art forever.” dedicated to the Mission, I think Devin wrote this part of the story very well.”
