“I’m not at liberty to talk about these things,” Grimes told the publication. “Whatever happens with family matters, I just feel like kids should stay out of it and [my son] X just came out. I mean, I think E really sees him as his protégé and gets him involved in everything and everything… X there. His situation is this. But yeah, I don’t know.”

Although Grimes hesitated at first, she finally revealed that yes, she and the founder of Tesla and SpaceX welcomed the girl.

The publication reported that the child’s name is Exa Dark Siderel Mask. Her nickname is “Yu”.

Exa “is a reference to the supercomputing term exaFLOPS (the ability to perform 1 quintillion floating point operations per second).” Dark represents the “unknown”, which is also “the beautiful mystery of our universe”. Grimes noted that Sideræl – “sigh-deer-ee-el” – is a “more elvish” spelling of sidereal, “true time of the universe, sidereal time, deep space time, not our relative Earth time”. The title also pays homage to her favorite Lord of the Rings character Galadriel, who “decided to renounce the ring”.

Grimes shared that she and Musk, 50, “sometimes call her Sailor Mars,” a reference to the Sailor Moon manga. The artist admitted that she worries that Exa Dark Sideræl Musk might come across as “a little boring.”
