The United Nations has hailed the “positive” character of the electoral process and the peaceful transition of power in Somalia’s presidential election on Sunday, which was won by Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who was the country’s president from 2012 to 2017.
“I would like to congratulate newly-elected President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on his victory on Sunday night,” James Swan, the UN Secretary-General’s special representative for Somalia, said on Monday.
