United Kingdom, special visas for graduates from prestigious universities: Italian universities do not …

there Great Britain opens to graduates who have studied at the most prestigious universities in the world: Despite Brexit, you get a visa and a work permit very quickly. However, no Italian university appears on the list: young graduates in Italy are therefore excluded. This is the so-called ‘Individual visa route with high potential“, which begins on May 30th. It is a new scheme designed to attract the most qualified young people to move and work in the UK: those who have graduated from one of the universities on the list published by the UK Government in the last five years , are exempted from the lengthy procedures required to obtain a visa.

Therefore, he doesn’t need to already have a job offer in his pocket and find a guarantor to fund his transfer, just prove that he has a good command of English and enough money to wait to find a job (the stipulated amount is modest: £1,270). The preferential visa, which costs £715, allows you to work for two years, which is three years if you have a PhD. A great opportunity for young Europeans to sidestep the immigration pressures imposed by the conservative government Boris Johnson after Brexit, which however excludes Italians and citizens of many other European countries.

The list of prestigious universities has been compiled on the basis of the government three international rankings: Times Higher Education World University Rankings, Academic Ranking of World Universities and Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings. The list contains 37 competence centers, including 23 in the United States or Canada, 8 in Asia and one in Australia. Only five European universities appear on the list: the University of Munich in Germany, Paris Sciences et Lettres in France, the Karolinska Institute in Sweden and two in Switzerland: the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and the Swiss Federal Polytechnic in Lausanne. No local excellences like the Normale of Pisa, Bocconi, La Sapienza of Rome or the Polytechnics of Milan and Turin. “The British government has made the list very America-oriented, based on global rankings – explains Andrea Biondi, Professor of EU Law at King’s College. London had announced this scheme and can implement it after Brexit. This is the new reality.” After leaving the EU, Britain continues to look towards the USA and Asia / Pacific, while neglecting its neighbors. Even Italy, home of the western world’s first university, that of Bologna.
