Taylor Swift’s longtime friend Joe Alwyn shared his excitement at his beau receiving an honorary doctorate from New York University.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 31-year-old actor gushed about the 32-year-old singer-songwriter’s accomplishment the night before she delivered the inaugural speech at NYU and accepted the honorary doctorate from the prestigious university.
“It’s an incredible honor,” the Conversations With Friends star told the media outlet on Tuesday.

Taylor and Joe also co-wrote several songs for their 2020 albums Folklore and Evermore.
On Wednesday, Taylor addressed the 2020, 2021 and 2022 graduates who were honored in an oversized ceremony due to previous COVID restrictions.
The Love Story hitmaker gave a well-received 25-minute speech encouraging students to embrace their mistakes and embarrassments.

She also thanked the university for awarding her a doctorate.
“I want to thank NYU for technically, at least on paper, making me a doctor,” Taylor said.
“Not the kind of doctor you’d want in an emergency, unless your specific emergency was you desperately needed to hear a song with a catchy hook and a very cathartic bridge section.

Swift thanked her parents and brother Austin for supporting her dreams, and urged all other graduates to say thank you to those who had helped them along the way or to remember them if they had since died.
Continuing with her philosophical theme, she added, “The scary news is you’re on your own now, but the cool news is you’re on your own now.”

In March, NYU announced that Taylor would deliver the inaugural address and confer an honoris causa Doctor of Fine Arts degree on her.
In a 2016 73 Questions with Vogue interview, the I Knew You Were Trouble singer previously shared that she hoped to receive an honorary doctorate.
She told the outlet, “I really want an honorary doctorate because Ed Sheeran has one, and I feel like now he’s looking down on me because I don’t have one.”
