According to the late rapper’s fiancée, DMX’s youngest child has stage 3 kidney disease.
Desiree Lindstrom, mother of 5-year-old Exodus Simmons, recently opened up about her son’s diagnosis, as well as how life has changed since losing her future husband almost a year ago.
“He still has stage 3 kidney disease,” Lindström said on the It’s Difficult with Raquel Harper podcast, hinting that Exodus had the disease since birth or shortly thereafter.
There are five stages of chronic kidney disease. In stage 3, according to the National Kidney Foundation, about half of the patient’s kidney function is lost.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, kidney disease is called chronic kidney disease (CKD) because organ function deteriorates over time. CKD can lead to kidney failure or end stage kidney disease, but this is not always the case.
“I just keep lowering his potassium. He can’t eat foods high in potassium,” Lindström explained how she’s coping with the Exodus condition. “He goes to the doctor very often. I’m sure his creatinine the levels are at the levels they need to be to keep it stable.”
According to the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases, kidney disease in children under 4 years of age is usually caused by birth defects or hereditary diseases.
But overall, Lindström says that “Exodus is stable” and that it “has been stable” since she had it.
“He’s an amazing kid,” she said.

Lindstrom said that “a lot is happening” and that “a lot of different changes” have happened since the fatal DMX overdose – the biggest of which is that she is studying to be a beautician.
“I’m learning to do facials, waxing, trying to build myself,” she explained. “I just want to be a good mother for Exodus. I want him to see that he has a strong mother who can stand up for herself. And I just trust God in the process.”
