Johnny Cash first reached #1 with the song “I Walk the Line,” but a mural in his hometown of Arkansas will be known for a different kind of #1.

A water tower with a painted silhouette of the late music legend is currently leaking over his hometown of Kingsland, Arkansas, thanks to a well-placed prank after a prankster recently shot the tank with impressive accuracy.

“Someone shot our water tower, shot Johnny Cash’s silhouette in a very sensitive area,” Kingsland Mayor Luke Neal told FOX 16. “It’s been leaking for almost a week.”

Kingsland, which has around 500 residents, paid homage to the star by painting a silhouette of the “Man in Black” with a red guitar on its water tower in March 2021. The silhouette is 6 feet 2 inches tall and belongs to Cash’s exact height.

People from nearby cities are taking special trips to see the leaking legend. But not everyone is tickled when the tower clangs. Kingsland loses about 30,000 gallons of water every day, according to Mayor Luke Neal.

“In small towns like this, you kind of have a tighter budget because that’s really all you have to work with. And things like that can set you back a bit,” Neal told local news station THV-11.

Neal said the leak is costing the city nearly $5,000 to repair. Crews must empty the entire tower before beginning.

A week after the tower was shelled, police arrested 38-year-old Timonthy Sled on Thursday. Sled has been charged with two felonies for allegedly shooting a hole in a water tower. Sled was charged with criminal mischief and interfering with the operations of a vital public utility. Both are crimes, and if convicted, Sled faces up to 16 years in prison.
