Man Utd v Tottenham Highlights: Cristiano Ronaldo Hat Trick Gives Spurs Powerful Top 4 Shot

Here’s what Alasdair thinks of the first half.

It was an odd half from Tottenham, who have probably been the best team for a long time, but found themselves baffled by two moments of weak defense.

First, Rodrigo Bentancur was sucked into a midfield challenge he never intended to accept, and then Eric Dier moved away from Cristiano Ronaldo, leaving a player of this quality with so much room to shoot from outside the box past Hugo Lloris.

Tottenham responded well with some good moves and some blocked shots into the box, as well as a Dier header that Diogo Dalot cleared off the line.

They returned a well-deserved goal after a cross from Dejan Kulusevski was blocked by an outstretched hand from Alex Telles, with referee Jonathan Moss pointing to the spot. Harry Kane didn’t make a mistake with a penalty shot into the bottom left corner.

However, the Spurs were caught off guard moments after the equalizer when Jadon Sancho ran forward to hop the ball over the top and Ronaldo scored his second goal of the game.

Tottenham will have to regroup at half-time and Antonio Conte will no doubt point out that his players are causing problems for United.

They are simply not decisive enough with the last ball or shot, and this prevents them from taking responsibility for the game.

Now they need to find a balance between getting back into the game and not leaving themselves open to counterattacks.
