Drone video shows whale being gobbled by dozens of sharks in Australia; Clock extra

A fisherman used a drone to film the feast of dozens of sharks off Betty’s Beach in the Albany area of southwest Australia. The footage shows a dead whale carcass floating in the water surrounded by predatory fish.

The number of sharks is so great that it is impossible to count them. The video, posted on couple John Cloke and Indy Crimmins’ social networks, begins with a few dozen fish surrounding the mammal. But when the picture opens, you can see the whale surrounded by myriad sharks.

In the video’s caption, the duo claim Cloke went out first to catch his morning fish. But noticing something different in the water, he decided to go back and use his drone.

“It was a 15 meter long humpback whale carcass! We were shocked by the amount of sharks surrounding it, we couldn’t count them all!” reads the caption.

Shortly after filming, the whale carcass reached Norman Beach. According to news website Perth Now, local conservation officials have confirmed that the whale’s remains were found by beach goers.

The Western Australian Department of Biodiversity and Tourism Resources Conservation (DBCA) has issued a shark alert for the area, saying the carcass will continue to attract predators.
