Tulsa coach Frank Hate resigned on Saturday after eight seasons with the Golden Hurricane.
Their season ended on Friday with a 25-point loss to SMU in the AAC quarterfinals.
“I have enjoyed spending time at the University of Tulsa and coaching the many young people we are proud of as student-athletes and how they continue to live beyond college,” Haight said in a press release. “My family and I will cherish the memories we made here at the university and in the community.
“I have enjoyed coaching these young people for the past eight years and I have enjoyed building a lasting relationship with them. The friendship that Pam and I have with so many in the community will always remain special to us. We thank the community for supporting our program and my family.”

Haight took over in 2014 after three seasons in Missouri, where he led the Tigers to two NCAA Tournament appearances. Since arriving in Tulsa, Haight has led the Golden Hurricane to three 20-win seasons and won at least 12 AAC games four times. But the program only went to one NCAA Tournament with Haight at the helm, a Top Four appearance in 2016, when he lost to Michigan.
Tulsa has struggled hard the past two seasons, going 11-12 last season and 11-20 this season, with a 4-14 record in the AAC in 2021-22.
“The last two years have been extremely challenging in moving the program forward due to the onslaught of COVID,” Haight said. “I am grateful for the opportunity given to me by President Steadman Upham and Dr. Derrick Gregg back in 2014. I wish the university and the basketball program all the best for the future.”
In just eight years, Hite scored 139–108 points.
Sources told ESPN that Tulsa’s potential target could be St. John’s coach Mike Anderson. Anderson played for two years in Tulsa and worked as an assistant coach for three years to launch his coaching career.
