But who is Pedro?

The band Jovem Dionísio is formed by a group of musicians from Curitiba who decided to pay homage to the “old Dionísio”, the owner of the bar they used to frequent in the city. According to singer Belni Pasquali, the big hit was also a tribute to one of the local regulars, the now famous Pedrinho. “Pedrinho is a great regular at the bar [do Dionísio] and he’s a guy who always sleeps in a corner, he stays there, drinks and stuff, talks a little bit and sleeps…then he wakes up a little bit more and goes back to sleep,” he said in an interview with GQ Brasil.

Although the music suggests a dance, the championship is actually a snooker. “The first idea was to talk about the people at the bar. But once we followed ‘Acorda Pedrinho’ when we got there and there was a snooker championship going on there. We saw him finish third and we were impressed. He just slept, woke up and played,” the band explained to Splash in an interview with Zeca Camargo.

As the music industry continues to seek hits on TikTok, the artists admitted that no matter how much they hoped for a hit, they didn’t create the track with that in mind. “From the moment we first did this song, everyone thought it was really cool. She was, yes, a big bet of ours from an early age, even named the album because of it. But we never thought about showing up on TikTok, to that end it was just a big joke and it turns out it was,” said bassist Gustavo Karam.

The band also has a curious story behind the composition of “Acorda, Pedrinho”. Drummer Gabriel Mendes, known as “Mendão”, gave the starting point with the verse: “I don’t know where else to go, I only know that the night was long”. From there, the five members brainstormed together on a farm and the end result is here: the latest viral on the internet, which is also the first letter signed by everyone.

In this championship you can already see that they have won, right? And the streams don’t stop! As always, it’s worth getting to know the artists a little better! The album “Acorda, Pedrinho”, released last month, is also available on Spotify and shows all facets of this group, about which there is still a lot to tell. Listen below:
