New reports echo that there is more to the story regarding Stephanie McMahon’s leave of absence from WWE.
As noted earlier this week, it was announced that Stephanie will be taking a hiatus from the company but intends to eventually resume her duties as Chief Brand Officer. News that broke out at the time of the announcement claimed there was probably more to the story, but everyone close to the situation kept quiet about her decision.
Wade Keller’s latest installment of PWTorch Dailycast also touched on the subject, and he personally expects more details about the story to come out. But even if he did, he doesn’t necessarily expect the reasons behind the break to make big headlines.
“I’ve been told not to expect the reasons for Stephanie’s resignation to come out. But the implication is there are reasons. So this won’t be a public scandal, but it’s something. That’s about all I can say right now based on the clues I’ve gotten from talking to people who know or know Stephanie and Hunter or know people who know them. And yes, [they] give me clues about things.
“Whatever’s going on, it sounds like it’s just very private,” Keller said. “And I haven’t received any clues as to what that is. So it’s a private and personal matter, it could have to do with Vince McMahon or Shane McMahon or Triple H.”
PWInsider’s Dave Scherer says he’s heard a number of stories explaining what led to the decision, but until he can confirm one of them we only have the reasons given by WWE.
“I’ve heard a lot of stories and honestly, until we can confirm them, I won’t speculate,” he writes. “I don’t think it’s responsible or fair to be completely frank. All I’m saying is that I think there’s a lot more to it than we know at the moment.”
Stephanie’s husband, WWE Hall of Famer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, has returned to his position as Executive Vice President of Global Talent Strategy & Development after suffering a tragic heart failure last year. Circumstances led to Triple H announcing his retirement from the ring at WrestleMania 38 last April.
WWE President & Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan will be responsible for Stephanie’s responsibilities going forward, and everyone who previously reported to Stephanie will report to Khan.
