Widow opens up about Domingos Montagner’s inheritance and relationship with Camila Pitanga

On September 15, 2016, Brazil lost one of its television crushes during the taping of TV Globo’s soap opera Velho Chico. Domingos Montagner died at the age of 54 while swimming in the São Francisco River with actress Camila Pitanga. Five years after the tragedy, the actor won the biography O Espetáculo Não Para, written by the journalist Oswaldo Carvalho and published by the publisher Máquina de Livros.

The work tells the story of Domingos from his childhood in Tatuapé in São Paulo until he established himself as one of the greatest Brazilian actors of his time. Oswaldo introduces the reader to the daily life of Mingo as he was called when he was a child and his restlessness leading to the discovery of the artistic world. The first experiences in amateur theater, the talent to create and manipulate puppets, the lessons at the Circo Escola Picadeiro, the difficulties as a street performer and traveling around the world at festivals and more.

In addition to portraying a littleknown side of Domingos Montagner as a circus performer, the work extends to the moment when the actor became the heartthrob of soap operas. It also reveals the birth of Mingo’s three children Léo, Dante and Antônio his marriage to producer Luciana Lima and the actor’s death in “old Chico”.

“I hope the book saves the importance of Domingos and his entire generation who learned the circus arts at the Circo Escola Picadeiro in São Paulo and transformed the cultural scene in Brazil with innovative shows. I also hope that it inspires many people to make art while combining creativity, rigor and respect for the audience, as I think Domingos did,” says Oswaldo.

in conversation with the metropolises, Luciana Lima spoke about the work and artistic legacy of Domingos; he shared how he keeps the artist’s memory alive for the couple’s children; recalled rumors that the heartthrob was having an affair with actress Cleo Pires; and commented on the relationship with Camila Pitanga, who was with Domingos at the time of the tragic accident.

The producer said that living with Domingos was “energizing” and explained that the actor is still a presence in her life and that of her children. Luciana reflected on how, five years after losing her husband, she remembers all the good things she experienced with the artist.

“He’s very present, in everything. The male reference for male children is just as important as the female figure at the location of the photograph. We see this 1.87 meter man crying in the presentation [dos filhos]Moved by the June Festival, he was very sensitive. But it was firm to bring knowledge and values,” she began.

We renamed the places we used to go to five, now we go to four. It is a longing to inspire in this place of good memories. Not what we’ve lost, but it always stays in that place of good memories of what we’ve been through.

Luciana also guaranteed to keep in touch with the actress whenever possible despite rumors of Domingos and Camila’s alleged involvement at the time of the taping of the soap opera Velho Chico.

“I’m Camila’s friend, we support each other whenever we can. She is also a single mother, we share at this point. There was this friendship that we might not have strengthened if it weren’t for that death,” the producer explained.

“That bond of affection that has remained in Domingos continues to this day. It’s not that often, but they have a few artists that they still keep in touch with today. It was one of the gifts Domingos gave me, these friends,” he concluded.
