Marie-Denise Pelletier, Joe Bocan and Marie Carmen were greeted with standing ovations and thunderous applause on Sunday afternoon on the occasion of their big comeback on the stage of the Théâtre Maisonneuve on the Place des Arts, 2 years and dust after the official premiere of their tour “For a One -Night Stand”.

Openly launched on March 10, 2020, just hours before the world shuts down, the series of shows brings these queens of Quebec “spray net” pop together on the same stage – a brilliant idea from producer Martin Leclerc who made it possible to get hold of a silver ticket on Sunday, i.e. more than 25,000 tickets sold. Let’s remember a feat accomplished in the midst of a pandemic.
The three women appeared stoically, hand in hand. Together they opened the show with a potpourri of seven songs, including “L’âme mate”, “Je t’aime mal” and “Dans la peau”. They shared the verses while the unique color of their voices blended beautifully.
If the audience was shy at the start of the show, they were quite loud and chatty towards the trio, who weren’t afraid to stand up to applaud the talent of the experienced singers who livened up Sunday afternoon.
The women then took turns dividing the stage and playing their respective anthems. Marie-Denise Pelletier opened the ball with “Inventer la terre,” a song that won her the Grand Prix de la chanson francophone in 1993 while representing Montreal in Paris. She also sang the mega-hits “Tous les cris, les SOS,” which earned her an ovation — and a few tears — and “Pour une histoire d’un soir” — “Hits” that will never go out of style.
Marie Carmen, of course, sang her version of “The Black Eagle”, which also received an ovation, “Faut pas que j’panique”, “J’ai l’blues de vous” and “Le rêve de Stella Spotlight”, u song, popularized by Marie-Denise Pelletier when she embodied this “fallen star” in Starmania. The latter also offered the song “Little earthly music”, which at the time concluded the rock opera by Luc Plamondon and Michel Berger.
Marie Carmen was also very moved when she interpreted “Between Shadows and Light”, her “beautiful granddaughter of 30”. She also invited the public to sing very loudly along with “to do good to the world.”
For her part, Joe Bocan did “Finish it there” – the “A-side” version of that 45rpm – “Down it” after first breaking off her big hit “Starting from zero” which she kept for the last act of the show and for which she put on her baggy dress. She also performed “Appocalypso” and “Les femmes voilées,” a song she wrote in her twenties to denounce violence against women. She also joked about the slightly unconventional perception the public had of her: “the mother who raised her children in the trees” and which would have made her the only singer whose song wasn’t signed Plamondon.
The show “Pour une histoire d’un soir” is a contemporary “rendezvous” that is good for a large audience. “Finally!” even exclaimed Marie-Denise Pelletier, who, like her acolytes, couldn’t hide her excitement and excitement at being back on the boards after a pandemic hiatus.
The “Pour une histoire d’un soir” tour will continue until at least 2023. All dates at productionsmartinleclerc.com.
